urbanexplore.london
A modern approach to urban exploration in London.
Depending on how you view it London is a playground. Those who have realised this have turned this into a hobby, this is called Urban Exploration, the unearthing of the urban environment and abandoned man-made structures.
Those who are heavily interested in Urban Exploration often document their exploits and activities on online message boards, these are often hidden and thrive on their secrecy, mostly due to legal issues because in most cases urban exploration involves trespassing onto private property, which in turn presents a whole host of its own legal issues.
These are not the only risks that Urban Exploration present, derelict and unmanaged buildings can provide physical danger to the user, and some activities associated with urban exploration can lead to arrest, punishment and depending on the severity of the crime could lead to arrest of prosecution under anti-terrorism laws.
Aims and Context
The aim of this project is to unify your understanding of how to arrange and display information, engage with live data in a lived context, challenge your technical and conceptual ambitions and introduce you to working across services and platforms.
It also introduces you to larger-scale project work where discipline, project management and self-direction are a necessary part of developing as a designer. |
Assignment information
Design an interactive map using live data. You can choose what data to use but should focus on what a spatial arrangement reveals about the information. Arranging data according to location involves thinking about scale, dimensions, placement, findability and transformation over time. Your design can take many different forms but should be accessible online. |
